VisitUS Constructs Military Base in Kobani, Ayn al-Arab Near Turkey Border with 50 Trucks
Jan 2, 2025, 11:17 AM
The United States has begun constructing a new military base in the city of Kobani, also known as Ayn al-Arab, in northern Syria near the border with Turkey. The construction is aimed at reinforcing the U.S. military presence in the region, amid ongoing tensions and clashes between the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Turkey-aligned rebel groups. A convoy carrying construction materials, including concrete barriers, fuel, and logistical supplies, was reported to have arrived in the area, consisting of approximately 50 trucks. The base is being established in a building previously known as the Kenem Hotel, now used as a student dormitory, marking the first time the U.S. has set up a military base directly in the center of a Syrian city. The move is seen as a strategic effort to support the SDF and counter Turkey's operations against Kurdish forces in the region.
