Trump to Appoint Sean Curran as Secret Service Director Following Assassination Attempts
Jan 17, 2025, 01:21 PM
President-elect Donald Trump is set to appoint Sean Curran, the head of his personal protective detail, as the new director of the United States Secret Service. Curran, who has been with Trump for many years and supervised about 85 agents, is expected to replace Ronald Rowe, the acting director. This decision follows scrutiny and pressure on the Secret Service after Trump was wounded in an assassination attempt during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024, and a second attempt at his Florida golf course on September 15. Curran was notably vocal about the need for increased security resources prior to the Butler incident, where he and other agents protected Trump after a bullet grazed his right ear. Donald Trump Jr. confirmed the decision, stating that Curran is 'a great patriot and will stop all the insanity once and for all.'
