U.S. President Donald Trump has warned Russia of additional sanctions and tariffs if President Vladimir Putin does not negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine. Speaking on January 21-22, Trump stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is ready to make a deal, but suggested that Putin may be unwilling. "I think he's destroying Russia by not making a deal," Trump said, noting that Russia's economy is "failing" and suffering from high inflation. He warned, "If we don’t make a deal soon, I have no other choice but to put high levels of Taxes, Tariffs, and Sanctions on anything being sold by Russia to the United States and various other participating countries." Emphasizing his desire to end the conflict, Trump stated, "Settle now, and stop this ridiculous war! It’s only going to get worse." He added, "We can do it the easy way, or the hard way—the easy way is always better."
