Trump Shuts Down CBP One App After Inauguration, Canceling 1 Million Asylum Appointments

Shortly after President Donald Trump was sworn into office on January 20, 2025, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) deactivated the CBP One mobile application, effectively canceling all existing appointments and leaving thousands of migrants in Ciudad Juárez and other border towns in limbo. Introduced in 2020 during the Biden administration, the app had allowed migrants seeking asylum to schedule parole appointments at eight southwest border ports of entry. The CBP One app facilitated the entry of approximately one million migrants into the United States, with more than 1,000 migrants using it daily. The cancellation notice on the CBP website, which used the term 'undocumented alien', signifies a shift in immigration policy as part of President Trump's broader efforts to curb illegal immigration and tighten border security. Migrants awaiting entry reacted with tears upon learning that the app had been shut down immediately after the inauguration.
