VisitTrump Names Tom Homan Border Czar to Lead Largest Mass Deportations and Workplace Immigration Raids
Nov 11, 2024, 12:48 PM
President-elect Donald Trump has announced the appointment of former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Tom Homan as the "Border Czar" in his incoming administration. Homan will oversee national border security, including U.S. borders across land, maritime, and aviation, and will be in charge of deportations of illegal immigrants back to their countries of origin. Trump stated that Homan will lead the largest mass deportation operation in U.S. history, which includes conducting workplace immigration raids. By appointing Homan as a czar, Trump avoids the need for Senate confirmation, sidestepping a potentially difficult process. Homan previously served as acting ICE Director during the Trump administration and was known for his hardline stance on immigration enforcement, including the zero-tolerance policy that led to family separations. He also served during the Obama administration as Executive Associate Director of ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), during which he received a President’s Award for Distinguished Service. Homan also contributed to the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025. His appointment underscores Trump's commitment to stringent immigration policies, including mass deportations and reinforced border security.
