The Trump administration has authorized federal immigration authorities, specifically ICE officials, to review and potentially revoke the legal status of nearly 1.5 million migrants who were allowed into the U.S. under parole programs implemented by the Biden administration. This move, detailed in an internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memo signed by acting DHS Secretary Benjamine Huffman, could lead to the deportation of these migrants. The memo expands the use of expedited removal, allowing for the rapid deportation of migrants who have been in the U.S. for less than two years and do not claim asylum or fail to meet initial standards. The affected migrants include those who entered via the CBP One phone app and through parole processes for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans (CHNV), which were closed by President Trump on his first day in office.
