VisitSyrian Leader Ahmed al-Sharaa Announces HTS Dissolution, Says Elections May Take Up to Four Years

Ahmed al-Sharaa, Syria's de facto leader and head of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), stated that organizing elections could take up to four years, as a comprehensive population census is required. In an exclusive interview with Al Arabiya on Sunday, al-Sharaa also said that drafting a new constitution may take three years to ensure a lasting framework. He announced that the dissolution of HTS will be declared at the upcoming National Dialogue Conference. Al-Sharaa noted the importance of maintaining ties with Iran and Russia.
