VisitStudy Confirms Moon Cave in Mare Tranquillitatis as Potential Shelter for Future Explorers
Jul 15, 2024, 04:51 PM
A new study has confirmed the existence of a cave on the moon, which could serve as a shelter for future explorers. The cave, identified as an old lava tube, is located in the Mare Tranquillitatis Pit, not far from where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed 55 years ago. Scientists believe that this cave, which is accessible from the deepest known pit on the moon, could protect astronauts from solar radiation and micrometeorite strikes. An international team of scientists also suggests that there may be hundreds of similar structures on the lunar surface that could be used for future missions.
