VisitSouth Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol's Impeachment Vote Stalls as PPP Party Boycotts
Dec 7, 2024, 11:35 AM
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol faced an impeachment vote in the National Assembly on Saturday over his attempt to impose martial law. The vote was stalled when all but two members of his ruling People Power Party (PPP) walked out of parliament, effectively boycotting the proceedings. This left the opposition in limbo, as at least eight MPs from Yoon's party would need to vote in favor of impeachment for the process to proceed. Protests in favor of the impeachment process were reported outside parliament, with demonstrators calling for Yoon's resignation.
