VisitSK Hynix to Invest $75 Billion in AI and HBM Chip Production by 2028, Partnering with Nvidia
Jun 30, 2024, 06:53 PM
South Korea's SK Hynix has announced plans to invest $75 billion by 2028 to expand its semiconductor production, with a significant focus on AI memory chips. The investment is part of a broader strategy by its parent company, SK Group, to strengthen its position in the competitive chipmaking industry. Approximately 80%, or $60 billion, of the investment will be allocated to manufacturing high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, which are optimized for use with Nvidia's AI accelerators. SK Group also aims to secure $58 billion by 2026 for AI and chip investments. Additionally, SK Telecom and SK Broadband will be involved in the broader investment strategy. The move is expected to bolster SK Hynix's capabilities in AI hardware and secure its role as a key supplier of advanced memory to major AI players.
