VisitSixth Circuit Blocks Biden Administration's FCC Net Neutrality Reinstatement
Aug 2, 2024, 12:59 AM
A U.S. appeals court has blocked the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) attempt to reinstate net neutrality regulations. The Sixth Circuit Court issued a stay on the Biden administration's efforts to reclassify broadband internet under Title II of the Communications Act, which would treat internet service providers as public utilities. The court's decision halts the FCC's policy until a legal challenge is resolved. The unanimous three-judge panel, which included appointees from Clinton, Bush, and Biden, ruled that broadband providers are likely to succeed in their legal challenge against the Obama-era regulations. The court has scheduled oral arguments for late October or early November to further deliberate on the issue.
