VisitSecret Service Faces Scrutiny Over Security Lapse in Trump Assassination Attempt by Matthew Crooks
Jul 15, 2024, 02:53 PM
The U.S. Secret Service is under intense scrutiny and facing investigations following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The incident has raised several questions about the agency's preparedness and response. The rooftop from which the gunman, identified as Matthew Crooks, fired shots had been previously flagged as a security risk. Despite this, the rooftop was left unguarded, and the Secret Service did not secure Trump or take him off stage in a timely manner. Local law enforcement was relied upon to secure the building, which has further fueled criticism. There are five unanswered questions, including why it took so long for snipers to take out the gunman. Random bystanders were reportedly begging the Secret Service to act. Secretary Mayorkas and the Secret Service are expected to provide answers regarding this security lapse.
