A piece of the knife, approximately 3 inches long, was extracted from his back. The Mumbai Police launched an extensive manhunt, forming over 30 teams to apprehend the suspect. The prime accused, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, a 30-year-old suspected to be of Bangladeshi origin, was arrested from Thane on January 19 after more than 70 hours of investigation.
