Russian lawmakers have advanced a bill that seeks to ban the promotion of a 'child-free' lifestyle. The State Duma, Russia's lower house of parliament, approved the first reading of the legislation, which targets media, internet, movies, and advertising content that encourages people not to have children. The bill aligns with President Vladimir Putin's push for traditional family values amid demographic concerns. Violations of the ban could result in fines of up to $4,100 for individuals and $51,500 for entities. State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin announced the approval. Critics argue that the legislation is repressive and fails to address the underlying issues contributing to Russia's declining birth rates.
