VisitRussia Faces $32 Billion Bill for 175 Million Tonnes of CO2 Emissions in First Two Years of Ukraine War
Jun 13, 2024, 07:12 AM
Russia's invasion of Ukraine has led to the emission of 175 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere over the first two years of the conflict, a joint report released on June 13 reveals. This climate cost surpasses the entire yearly output of the Netherlands and exceeds the annual greenhouse gas emissions of 175 countries individually. Consequently, Russia faces a $32 billion bill for climate reparations due to these emissions, which are expected to contribute significantly to global warming and cause an additional $32 billion in damages.
