VisitNigeria Charges 10 Protesters with Treason, Inciting Military After Demonstrations
Sep 2, 2024, 10:05 AM
The Nigerian government has charged ten protesters from the #EndBadGovernance movement with treason and conspiracy to incite the military to mutiny. These charges follow last month's nationwide demonstrations against a cost of living crisis. The protesters were arraigned in Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, and Gombe and have been remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre. Amnesty International has criticized the trial, labeling it a mockery of the rule of law and condemning the government's actions. Justice Nwite, an ally of the Tinubu government, is set to rule on the bail applications on September 11.
