Nawaf Salam, President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and former Lebanese ambassador to the United Nations, has secured 85 out of 128 parliamentary votes to become Lebanon's next Prime Minister. His appointment represents a setback for Hezbollah, which had supported incumbent Prime Minister Najib Mikati. Salam is known for his reform-minded and anti-corruption stance. President Joseph Aoun is expected to formally appoint Salam, who will return from The Hague to Beirut to form a new government.
