VisitMike Evans Misses Record and $3M Incentive, Falls Five Yards Short of 1,000-Yard Season
Jan 5, 2025, 08:59 PM
During the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' game against the New Orleans Saints, wide receiver Mike Evans aimed to tie Jerry Rice's record of 11 consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons by achieving 85 receiving yards and five receptions, which would also activate a $3 million incentive clause in his contract. Quarterback Baker Mayfield was 3-of-5 targeting Evans in the first half, and Evans required 54 more yards in the second half. As the game progressed, he got closer to the milestone, needing just 17 more yards with 2:32 remaining and the Buccaneers leading 20-19. Despite efforts in the final minutes, Evans finished the game five yards short, ending with 995 receiving yards for the season and missing out on the record and the incentive.
