Jan 13, 2025, 05:10 PM
Microsoft Corp. has established a new engineering group named Core AI, led by Jay Parikh, a recent hire who previously served as the head of engineering at Meta. The new division, officially titled CoreAI – Platform and Tools, will focus on developing AI tools and platforms for both Microsoft's internal use and its customers. This group will integrate Microsoft's developer division, AI platform team, and several teams from the Office of the CTO, including AI Supercomputer, AI Agentic Runtimes, and Engineering Thrive. The initiative is part of Microsoft's broader strategy to advance its AI capabilities, aiming to build an end-to-end Copilot & AI stack, which includes expanding GitHub Copilot. CEO Satya Nadella emphasized the rapid evolution of AI technology, stating that 'thirty years of change is being compressed into three years.' The new group will also work on creating an AI-first app stack and developing AI agents, with Azure serving as the infrastructure for AI.
