VisitJordan to Supply Electricity to Syria Amid Reconstruction Efforts
Jan 4, 2025, 06:30 AM
Jordan has announced its readiness to supply electricity to Syria, marking a step in Syria's reconstruction efforts following the ousting of Bashar al-Assad's regime. Jordan's Energy Minister, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, stated that infrastructure work is underway to supply electricity to the Nasib border crossing, following a request from Syria. The two countries have been electrically connected since 2001 via a 400-kilovolt transmission line, which has been out of service since 2012 due to technical issues. The restoration of this connection is contingent on Syria's readiness to receive power. This development aligns with the new Syrian administration's focus on rebuilding the nation's infrastructure, which was severely damaged during the civil war.
