VisitGoogle Achieves 101-Qubit Quantum Error Correction, Paving Way for Fault-Tolerant Computing
Aug 27, 2024, 01:05 PM
Google has achieved a significant milestone in quantum computing by demonstrating quantum error correction below the surface code threshold. This breakthrough, achieved by the Google Quantum AI team, involves a logical qubit composed of 101 physical qubits that lasted 2.4 times longer than the best physical qubit. The implementation of a 101-qubit surface code has shown that each time the distance is increased by two, the logical error rate is halved. This advancement is a critical step towards practical fault-tolerant quantum computing, proving that fault-tolerant quantum computing is possible.
