On Wednesday evening, January 9, 2025, a new brush fire erupted in the Hollywood Hills near the Hollywood sign and Runyon Canyon. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported the blaze started around 5:45 p.m. in the 2300 block of North Solar Drive. The fast-moving wildfire is burning south towards Hollywood, has rapidly grown to over 15 acres, and is potentially threatening the iconic Hollywood sign. Firefighters are responding with air support conducting water drops, and an immediate shutdown of Hollywood Boulevard from Laurel Canyon to La Brea has been requested.
