VisitEx-Soldier Daniel Khalife, 23, Found Guilty of Spying for Iran After Prison Escape
Nov 28, 2024, 11:25 AM
Daniel Khalife, a 23-year-old former British soldier, was found guilty at Woolwich Crown Court of spying for Iran. Over a period of two years, Khalife collected sensitive information, including the names of British special forces personnel, and passed it to individuals linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. He was cleared of carrying out a bomb hoax. Khalife had claimed he wanted to be a double agent to help British intelligence services, but prosecutors described his actions as a 'cynical game' that posed a significant threat to national security. In September 2023, he escaped from Wandsworth Prison under a catering truck, prompting a three-day manhunt before he was recaptured.
