The strike was scheduled to begin on January 15, following a previous work stoppage in October. The agreement addresses key issues, including protections against job losses due to automation while allowing for port modernization. The deal resolves disputes over the use of automated machinery such as semi-automated cranes. Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su facilitated the negotiations. The union credits President Donald Trump's support as instrumental in securing the new contract. The tentative agreement now awaits ratification by both parties.
