DeSantis Calls Special Session on Jan. 27 to Support Trump's Immigration Crackdown, Tennessee Follows

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has called for a special legislative session on January 27 to implement policies aimed at supporting President-elect Donald Trump's anticipated immigration crackdown. DeSantis's proposals include making undocumented entry into the U.S. a state-level crime, appointing a state immigration enforcement officer, and requiring maximum participation from local law enforcement in federal immigration programs. He also plans to expand state provisions to target migrants involved in gang activities, increase penalties for illegal voting, and crack down on remittances. Despite some pushback from Florida GOP leaders who described the session as 'premature', Trump has publicly praised DeSantis's efforts, urging other governors to follow suit. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has also announced a special session for the same date to address similar issues.
