Erdogan Hails Syrian People's 'Great Victory'; Turkey to Cooperate with New Syrian Administration as SNA Takes Manbij
Dec 26, 2024, 09:07 AM
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated the Syrian people on their 'great victory' and liberation from tyranny, pledging Turkey's full support in helping them build their new state. Erdogan, who recited verses from the Quran during his address, stated that the Syrian people have ended decades of unjust rule and saved their country from a 'gang of murderers.' The Syrian National Army (SNA) has reportedly taken control of the strategic Tishrin Dam and the town of Manbij, previously held by PKK/YPG forces. The SNA forces also destroyed tunnels used by PKK/YPG near the Tishrin Dam and Karakozak Bridge. The Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed that Manbij and Tishrin Dam are under SNA control and dismissed claims of terrorist advances in the area. The Ministry emphasized the importance of defense cooperation with Syria's new administration, supporting the formation of a unified Syrian army and expressing a desire to work with the new administration in the fight against terrorism. Turkey expressed willingness to assist Syrian refugees who wish to return home but will not force anyone to leave.
