E. coli Outbreak Linked to Grimmway Farms’ Organic Carrots Sickens 39, Hospitalizes 15; Recall Issued Across Multiple Brands
Nov 17, 2024, 08:11 PM
An E. coli outbreak linked to organic carrots has caused one death and sickened 39 people across 18 states, with 15 hospitalized, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC announced on Sunday that organic whole and baby carrots sold by Grimmway Farms of Bakersfield, California, have been recalled due to potential contamination with E. coli O121:H9. The recalled carrots were sold under more than a dozen brand names at major retailers, including Walmart, Target, Publix, Kroger, Albertsons, Food Lion, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Sprouts. The CDC urges consumers to check their homes for recalled bagged organic carrots and to discard them. Carrots currently on store shelves are not affected by the recall.
