Sony's Soneium Ethereum Layer 2 Platform Launches After Attracting 14 Million Users

Sony Corp., a 78-year-old technology giant, has launched Soneium, its Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain platform, marking its entry into the blockchain space. The mainnet launch follows a four-month testing period that attracted over 14 million users. Soneium, developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs (Sony BSL), aims to simplify blockchain interactions for creators and fans, leveraging the OP Stack and Superchain architecture from the Optimism Foundation. The platform seeks to bridge Web2 and Web3, focusing on protecting creator rights and fostering equitable value distribution between creators and fans. Sony BSL, a joint venture between Sony Group and Startale Group, has already initiated an incubation program called Soneium Spark, which saw significant interest with over 1,700 applications.
