U.S. and Canada Sanction Samidoun, PFLP Fundraiser, as Terrorist Entity
Oct 15, 2024, 02:47 PM
In a coordinated effort, the United States and Canada have sanctioned the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, designating it as a terrorist entity. According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and Public Safety Canada, Samidoun is a sham charity that serves as an international fundraiser for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a designated terrorist organization. The sanctions come after Samidoun was involved in protests in the U.S. and Canada, including an incident in Vancouver where participants burned a Canadian flag and chanted 'Death to Canada.' Samidoun activist Khaled Barakat, who is a member of the PFLP, was also sanctioned. The organization has also been banned in Germany. The designation aims to counter terrorist organizations and their global fundraisers.
