Canada and U.S. Jointly Sanction Vancouver-Based Samidoun as Terrorist Entity Linked to PFLP
Oct 15, 2024, 02:38 PM
Effective October 11, the Canadian government has designated Samidoun, a pro-Palestinian organization based in Vancouver, as a terrorist entity under Canada's Criminal Code. The United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), in coordination with Canada, has also sanctioned Samidoun as a "sham charity" that serves as an international fundraiser for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a designated terrorist organization. This follows calls from Canadian Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, who urged Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to ban Samidoun, stating, "Stop appeasing terrorists." Samidoun had organized demonstrations in Vancouver where Canadian flags were burned and protesters cheered on Hamas.
