New York Times Sues One-Man Developer's Worldle Over Similarity to Wordle's Street View
May 31, 2024, 07:41 PM
The New York Times, owner of the popular word puzzle game Wordle, has filed a lawsuit against Worldle, a geography-based guessing game developed by a single individual. The lawsuit alleges that Worldle is 'nearly identical in appearance, sound, and meaning' to Wordle and is attempting to capitalize on Wordle’s 'enormous goodwill.' The New York Times acquired Wordle in 2022 and has issued court threats to Worldle, claiming that the game creates confusion among users. Despite previously stating it was 'fine with similar games' in 2023, the New York Times is now taking legal action to protect its intellectual property. The lawsuit also targets the 'Street View' feature of Worldle, which is developed by a one-man developer.
