Japan Issues Tsunami Warnings After 6.9 Magnitude Quake Hits Kyushu Region

A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck southwestern Japan in Miyazaki Prefecture on Kyushu island on January 13, 2025. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the quake occurred at a depth of 36 kilometers and had an intensity of lower 5 on the Japanese scale of 0 to 7. Tsunami warnings were issued for Miyazaki and Kochi prefectures, urging residents to stay away from coastal areas.
