Virginia Man Zachary Alam Sentenced to 8 Years for January 6 Capitol Breach After Trump's Victory
Nov 8, 2024, 01:30 PM
Zachary Alam, a Virginia man and participant in the January 6, 2021 Capitol breach, has been sentenced to eight years in prison. Alam was convicted of assaulting law enforcement officers, destroying government property, and obstructing an official proceeding. He was recorded punching glass windows near the Speaker’s Lobby and demanded a full pardon and restitution at his sentencing. The judge noted Alam's lack of remorse in imposing the penalty. This marks one of the first sentences since President-elect Donald Trump's recent victory, who has vowed to pardon supporters involved in the Capitol attack. Federal prosecutors had called for a sentence of more than 11 years. Alam was involved in the incident where an officer fatally shot another rioter.
