French Court Orders Release of Lebanese Pro-Palestinian Activist Georges Abdallah After 40 Years
Nov 15, 2024, 01:44 PM
A French court has ordered the release of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, a Lebanese communist and pro-Palestinian activist, who has been Europe's longest-serving political prisoner for 40 years after being convicted of the murders of U.S. military attaché Charles Ray and Israeli diplomat Yaacov Bar-Simantov in 1982. Abdallah, aged 72, was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1987. The court's decision mandates his release on December 6, provided he leaves France. The French anti-terrorism prosecutor's office has announced an appeal against this decision.
