Trump Inauguration Security Bolstered with 25,000 Personnel Amid Threat Warnings and Radiological Scans
Jan 17, 2025, 01:17 AM
U.S. national security agencies have warned that President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Monday could be an 'attractive potential target' for threats, particularly from individuals with election-related grievances who may view the event as their last chance to influence the election results through violence. Despite no specific credible threats being identified, a comprehensive security plan has been put in place. This includes deploying approximately 25,000 law enforcement officers and military personnel, including 4,000 extra officers and 7,800 National Guard members, to secure the event. The Illinois National Guard is contributing 140 members to these efforts. Additionally, the Department of Energy is conducting aerial scans over Washington, D.C., to detect any radiological or nuclear irregularities, indicating heightened security measures in response to the perceived threat level.
