Unidentified Drones 'Go Dark' Over New Jersey, Including Near Trump's Golf Club, Raising Security Concerns
Dec 9, 2024, 05:46 PM
Residents and officials in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania are expressing growing concern over a series of mysterious drone sightings reported over the past several weeks. Large drones, some described as 'car-sized' or 'SUV-sized,' have been spotted flying over multiple communities, including Staten Island, the Philadelphia area, and Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. In New Jersey, drones have appeared near sensitive sites such as Naval Weapons Station Earle and Trump's Bedminster Golf Club. Witnesses report that the drones are sophisticated and 'go dark' when sighted, making them difficult to track. The drones, often seen at night, have prompted local law enforcement involvement and an FBI investigation. Over 20 mayors from Morris County, New Jersey, have sent a letter to Governor Phil Murphy demanding action and transparency regarding the drone activity. Governor Murphy acknowledged the sightings, stating he is in contact with the White House and Homeland Security, but noted that while they are frustrating, there is no public safety concern at this time. Federal agencies, including the FAA, FBI, and Department of Homeland Security, are reportedly involved in the investigation. Concerns over national security have been raised, with Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey calling the federal response 'totally unacceptable.' Congressmen August Pfluger and Carlos Gimenez are set to hold a hearing to examine threats posed by unmanned aerial systems to homeland security.
