Israeli Strike in Gaza Kills Five, Including WCK Workers; IDF Claims Target Was October 7 Attacker
Nov 30, 2024, 12:14 PM
An Israeli airstrike in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, on Saturday resulted in the deaths of five people, including three employees of World Central Kitchen (WCK), an international humanitarian organization founded by Chef José Andrés. The vehicle, reportedly clearly marked and carrying food aid, was targeted while transporting WCK workers and two civilians. Among the victims was Azem Abu Daqga, the head of the collective kitchens east of Khan Younis. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the strike targeted a terrorist, Hazmi Kadih, who they allege participated in the October 7 attacks on Kibbutz Nir Oz. The IDF is investigating claims that Kadih was employed by WCK and noted that the vehicle's movement was not coordinated with them. Following the incident, WCK announced it is pausing its operations in Gaza.
