Biden Welcomes ILA and USMX Tentative Agreement to End Dockworker Strike
Oct 3, 2024, 11:30 PM
President Joe Biden has welcomed the tentative agreement reached between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) to end the dockworker strike. Biden applauded the dockworkers and USMX for their efforts in reaching a record wage agreement and extending the collective bargaining process, which represents critical progress towards a strong contract. He emphasized the importance of reopening the East Coast and Gulf ports to ensure the availability of critical supplies for recovery and rebuilding efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. Biden thanked the union workers, carriers, and port operators for acting patriotically to address the port strikes and support the affected communities.
