Former Russian chief investigator Marat Tambiyev has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for accepting bribes in Bitcoin. Tambiyev was convicted of taking 1,032 Bitcoins, worth approximately $65 million to $73 million, from an organized crime group he was investigating. The bribe, marking a record in modern Russian history, was given in exchange for Tambiyev's agreement not to confiscate the Bitcoins. This case highlights one of the largest corruption scandals involving cryptocurrency in Russia.
