Jan 1, 2025, 12:21 PM
At least 10 people were killed and over 35 injured on New Year's Day when a driver plowed a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans' French Quarter, city authorities said. The incident occurred around 3:15 a.m. during New Year's celebrations. After crashing into the crowd, the driver reportedly exited the vehicle and opened fire, prompting police to return fire. Two police officers were injured in the shootout, and the suspect was killed. The mayor described the incident as a 'terrorist attack,' stating that the driver was 'hell-bent on creating carnage.' The FBI is investigating, and at least one improvised explosive device was reportedly found at the scene.
