IRS to Issue $2.4 Billion in Stimulus Checks of Up to $1,400 to One Million Taxpayers by Late January 2025
Dec 28, 2024, 01:19 PM
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced that approximately one million taxpayers will receive special payments of up to $1,400 in the coming weeks, totaling about $2.4 billion. These payments are intended for individuals who were eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit in 2021 but did not claim it on their tax returns. IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel stated that the agency identified these taxpayers through internal data analysis, and the payments will be issued automatically without any action required from the recipients. The funds will be distributed by late January 2025 through direct deposit or paper check, based on the information provided in the taxpayers' 2023 tax returns or the address on file with the IRS. Taxpayers who have not yet filed their 2021 returns may still be eligible if they file by April 15, 2025.
