Elon Musk's SpaceX Moves to Incorporate Starbase in Cameron County as New City
Dec 13, 2024, 06:48 AM
SpaceX, under the leadership of Elon Musk, has initiated a formal process to incorporate its South Texas site, known as Starbase, into an official city. The company sent a letter to local officials in Cameron County requesting an election to turn Starbase, where SpaceX builds and launches its Starship rockets, into an incorporated city. This move is part of SpaceX's strategy to expand its workforce and infrastructure, necessary for the rapid development and manufacturing of the Starship. The petition for incorporation was filed by residents of the Starbase area, located on the southern tip of Texas near the Mexican border. Despite opposition from some local groups over environmental concerns, SpaceX maintains that state assessments have found no environmental risks associated with its activities.
