17 Missing, 28 Rescued After Sea Story Boat Sinks Near Marsa Alam, Egypt
Nov 25, 2024, 12:47 PM
A tourist boat named Sea Story sank off the coast of Marsa Alam near Wadi El Gemal, Egypt, in the Red Sea on Monday following warnings about rough seas. The vessel was carrying 45 people, including 31 tourists of various nationalities—among them at least two Chinese and four British nationals—and 14 crew members on a diving trip when it capsized due to high waves. Egyptian authorities have rescued 28 people, including the two Chinese tourists, and operations are ongoing to locate the remaining 17 missing individuals. Governor Amr Hanafy of the Red Sea province stated that rescue efforts are being intensified in coordination with naval forces, deploying frigates and aircraft in the search.
