NASA's Psyche Sends Laser Message at 267 Mb/s from 226 Million Kilometers
Apr 29, 2024, 10:02 PM
NASA's Psyche spacecraft has successfully demonstrated a significant advancement in space communication technology by transmitting a laser message over a distance of 140 million miles (approximately 226 million kilometers). The message, part of the Deep Space Optical Communications experiment, was sent from the Psyche spacecraft and received on Earth. This experiment showcases the potential for communication speeds 10 to 100 times faster and more reliable between spacecraft and Earth, which could greatly benefit future missions to Mars and beyond. The technology achieved impressive transmission speeds of up to 267 Mb/s, setting a new standard for data transfer in space.
