China Connects 400 MW Offshore Wind Farm with 13 MW Units in Fujian
Jun 27, 2024, 11:30 PM
China has connected its first offshore wind farm with an ultra-large single-unit capacity of 13 MW and above to the grid in southeast Fujian province, 30 km offshore. The 400-MW project, which includes turbines with capacities up to 16 MW, is expected to generate 1.6 billion kWh of clean power annually, meeting the energy needs of 680,000 households and reducing CO2 emissions by 1.36 million tons per year. Additionally, an experimental 18 MW turbine has begun generating electricity. This project is part of China's broader initiative to triple its offshore wind capacity to 129 GW, with the cost of offshore wind power projected to dip below that of coal-generated electricity for the first time this year, at 4 cents per kWh, 27% below coal.
