Hyundai Recalls 145,235 EVs, Kia Recalls 62,872 EV6s in U.S. Over Power Loss Risk
Nov 22, 2024, 05:49 PM
Hyundai Motor Co. and its affiliate Kia Corp. are recalling over 208,000 electric vehicles in the United States due to software issues that may cause a sudden loss of driving power, increasing the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Hyundai's recall affects exactly 145,235 vehicles, including the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and Genesis EV models. Kia is recalling 62,872 of its EV6 vehicles. The issue stems from a fault in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) software, which may detect a battery monitoring error and unintentionally allow the shutdown of the Direct Current converter, leading to a loss of power while driving. Both automakers are offering free software updates to address the issue, and owners are advised to contact their dealerships to determine if their vehicle is affected.
