Croatian Deputy PM Josip Dabro Resigns Over Video of Him Firing Training Bullets From Car, Adding to Coalition Government's Woes
Jan 18, 2025, 12:32 PM
Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Josip Dabro, who also served as the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, resigned on Saturday after a video surfaced showing him firing a handgun from a moving car. The video, which was made public by the daily Jutarnji List, depicted Dabro in the passenger seat shooting into the dark with training bullets. Dabro, a member of the nationalist hard-right party Homeland Movement, claimed the footage was several years old. The incident adds to the troubles of the coalition government led by Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, following the dismissal of Health Minister Vili Bros in November amid a corruption probe. Dabro's resignation was announced on his Facebook page, where he stated that he did not want to distract the government from its priorities or delay necessary reforms. He mentioned facing significant pressure and threats over his attempts to implement changes for greater transparency in his department.
