Bill Gates-Backed Startup Raises $26.5M for Livestock Emission Reduction Vaccine
May 12, 2024, 04:29 PM
A U.S. startup, backed by an investment fund founded by Bill Gates, has raised $26.5 million to develop a vaccine aimed at reducing methane emissions from livestock by minimizing their burps and farts. The funding round was led by Gates' firm, and the startup also received a $6 million investment from AgriZeroNZ. The development of this CH4 vaccine for ruminants is seen as a long-term strategy to lower agricultural emissions, according to Wayne McNee, Chief Executive of AgriZeroNZ.
