President-elect Trump Vows to "Lead Charge" to Abolish Debt Ceiling, Threatens Shutdown
Dec 19, 2024, 02:52 PM
President-elect Donald Trump has called for abolishing the U.S. debt ceiling, stating he would "lead the charge" to eliminate it. In a phone interview with NBC News, Trump said the debt ceiling is a "fake thing" with "no real value" in controlling debt. He noted that Democrats have previously sought to remove the debt ceiling, and he supports that move "entirely." Trump warned that unless Congress eliminates or extends the debt ceiling, there could be a government shutdown, adding, "There won't be anything approved unless the debt ceiling is done with."
