On December 24, a family was mistakenly shot at by agents of the Polícia Rodoviária Federal (PRF) on the BR-040 highway in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro. A 26-year-old woman was critically injured after being shot in the head during the incident, which occurred as the family was traveling to a Christmas dinner. Witnesses reported that over 30 shots were fired during the PRF's approach. Following the incident, the PRF has suspended the officers involved, and the case is under investigation by the Polícia Federal. The father of the injured woman expressed disbelief, stating he thought they were being attacked by criminals rather than law enforcement.
